It’s Daylight Savings Time again. I never know what to think about the whole “gain an hour” or “lose an hour” discussion. Are we really gaining and losing that time? It seems like everyone is more tired in the winter months and I rarely hear anyone complain about longer hours of daylight but we aren’t really gaining or losing time.
Even though the time change is out of our control, how you spend your time is truly in your control. You get to decide what you will do with your precious time. I want to help you get the most out of every hour of every day.
Here are some of my favorite tips and tools on how to make the most of your time:
1. Prep the Night Before: make lunches, get homework and permission slips into backpacks, charge your devices and set out clothes. All of this makes for easier mornings and saves time looking for stuff.
2. Calendar Time Blocking: Block off drive time to get to your appointment, appointment time duration and time to get to your next appointment on your calendar. This keeps you from double booking and helps keep traffic jams and other issues from making you late all day.
3. “Multi-tasking”: I do not recommend multi-tasking but you can do two tasks at one time as long as one is physical and one is mental. For example, you can fold laundry and talk on the phone. You can also clean out your purse and car while your pumping gas. I do NOT recommend doing two mental tasks such as e-mailing and talking on the phone. Another favorite is listen to a book or learn a new language (through audio courses) while exercising.
Whether you use any of these time savings tools or not, I hope you will take back control of your time and the way you spend it. Take several mental breaks during the day. Spend time with family and friends. Enjoy every day to the fullest!
Happy Daylight Savings Day – Turn your Clocks forward 1 hour on Sunday at 2am (before you go to bed Saturday night).
