We recently completed this closet makeover for a client who asked for a “Home Edit” style and were thrilled with the results. Keeping your closet organized isn’t just about creating a beautiful space. When you can walk into your closet and effortlessly select your outfit for the day, it eases stress and starts the morning on the right foot! Here are our recommendations on simple ways you can maintain your closet throughout the year.
Tips for an Organized Closet:
Keep a white and black garbage bag in your closet. Use one for trash and the other for donate.
Ask yourself the following questions?
When is the last time I wore this?
Will I ever wear it again?
Do I like it?
Donate any item if you have not worn it in 2 or more years, if you will never wear it, if it does not fit for more than 2 years or if it makes you feel bad.
Throw away any items with holes and or stains.
A good way to figure out if you are wearing all of your clothes is to start the year with all the hangers turned backwards. Each time you hang something you’ve worn, hang it the opposite direction. At the end of the year, donate any item still hung backwards. To do the same with your folded clothes, put a piece of blue tape on them. If any have blue tape at the end of the year, donate them.
