Are you freaking out about the holidays? Wondering how you will get everything done in time? Fret not – Simply Organized is here to help with some tips!
1. Decorating
– Check all your lights first before putting them on the tree. This will save you tons of time if a strand is not working.
– If you do not have your decorations in designated boxes (preferably plastic and red or green) make a note to buy some after the holidays when they will be cheaper. It will make next year easier to find and keep them dust and bug/ rodent-free.
2. Cards
– Hopefully you have an up-to-date list of your friends and family’s addresses. If not, start today and put them all in an excel spreadsheet or at least on one-sheet of paper you can keep with your decorations.
– Print out your list and start writing a few each evening. You have until the 20th to get them in the mail. I recommend 10 each evening until you’re finished. Keep your stamps and return address stickers handy.
– Instead of licking hundreds of envelopes, do yourself a favor, use a damp sponge to wet the envelope seal or buy envelopes with the sticker seals (just peel off and you are done).
3. House guests
– Give yourself the gift of maid service the day or two before your guests arrive. I know it is a luxury but do it just once per year and you will not regret it. If this is not a possibility, clean the extra sheets, towels and guest bath the weekend before they come so you don’t feel rushed.
– It’s o.k. to ask them to help you with a few chores such as dishes or gift wrapping. Most people love to help so they don’t feel like they are an extra burden on you.
4. Dinner Party
– The key is to plan ahead and cook ahead. Most side dishes and appetizers can be made a few days before you serve. Again, give yourself a break. If you do not have time to shop and cook, get a ham or some catered food from your favorite restaurant, local deli or grocery store.
The most important thing is to enjoy your holidays. Don’t let stress ruin the time you have with your loved ones. Give yourself a break – you deserve it!
